"With
this tapestry, called The Musicians, Krystyna Sadowska
evokes the fluid atmosphere of eternal poetry which invests those
who need no words to express joy and sorrow. Full of youth and dynamism,
The Musicians is similar in some ways to other contemporary
Polish work, but its author has happily managed to avoid the pitfall
of being over-influenced by folklore. Born in Poland on June 2,
1912, Krystyna Sadowska studied successively in Warsaw, London and
Paris, finally emigrating to Canada some years ago, where she has
now taken out formal citizenship. She paints and weaves her caricatures
in her own workshop. Her tapestries have won many prizes in international
exhibitions, notably a Gold Medal from the French Government in
1937." - Adolf Hoffmeister, Director of the History of Art,
Prague (1978) |
